The Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR (Patch 3.1, Season of Pandemonium) is easily one of the most impactful balance updates the game has seen in a while. Almost every class was touched in some way, and early testing already shows a pretty clear shift in the meta Diablo 4 gold.

S Tier: The Standout Classes
1. Paladin - The biggest winner of the patch
Paladin comes out of this PTR in an excellent spot. After several seasons of feeling underwhelming, the class finally gets the numbers and scaling it needed.

Most builds were buffed in some form, and even though the old Thorns setup was slightly toned down, other playstyles were brought up to compensate. The Paragon changes also help smooth out build diversity instead of forcing one dominant setup.

Right now, Paladin feels flexible and strong across multiple directions rather than relying on a single broken build.

Heavy melee “Sword of Justice” scaling builds

2. Necromancer - strong across almost everything
Necromancer also comes out very well. Instead of relying on one standout build, it now has several viable archetypes that all feel competitive.

Minions, Bone, and Shadow builds all received noticeable improvements, which makes the class feel more complete overall. The only real downside is that Overpower-focused setups were toned down along with broader system changes.

Even so, Necromancer feels like one of the safest S-tier picks going into the season.

Bone Spear setups
Shadow minion summoner builds
Bleed/physical variants using newer scaling options

3. Druid - quietly one of the strongest
Druid also performs very well this patch. While pet-focused builds took a small hit, everything else got meaningful improvements.

Werewolf, Werebear, and Storm-based builds all received buffs, and the class benefits a lot from new item and Paragon adjustments. The end result is a much more flexible Druid that doesn't feel locked into one dominant playstyle.

Cataclysm Storm Druid
Pulverize Werebear
Shred Werewolf builds

A Tier: Strong but not dominant
1. Warlock - still good, just less explosive
Warlock takes a hit after the nerf to its previously dominant Apocalypse-style build. That setup is no longer the clear best option, which forces players to explore other directions.

That said, the class wasn't gutted. Several alternative builds were improved, and new gear options give it more variety overall. It just no longer sits at the top of the meta like before.

Hellfire-focused Warlock builds
Pet/summon-based setups
Curse stacking variants

2. Rogue - small adjustments, still solid
Rogue didn't change dramatically this patch. A few popular setups were slightly tuned down, while weaker builds got small buffs.

It feels more like a refinement patch than anything major. If anything, Rogue may quietly improve if some of the bug fixes and item interactions end up stronger than expected.

B Tier: Middle of the pack
1. Spiritborn - toned down but still usable
Spiritborn loses some of its most abused mechanics this season, especially mobility-focused setups. Infinite-style evade builds are basically gone, and some damage stacking tricks were removed.

However, it wasn't destroyed. Defensive buffs help keep it relevant, even if it no longer feels overpowered.

Strong builds to try:
Quill Volley builds
Poison-focused setups
Ranged defensive variants

2. Sorcerer - no longer at the top
Sorcerer drops quite a bit compared to Season 13. Some of its fastest clearing setups were heavily nerfed, especially those relying on skill scaling interactions.

It's still playable and still strong in the right builds, but it no longer dominates speed content like before.

Fire-based burn builds
Ice Shards setups
Chain Lightning builds

C Tier: Barbarian - rough start, potential later
Barbarian takes the hardest hit this patch. Several of its strongest scaling mechanics were heavily reduced or removed, which brings down overall damage across the board.

That said, it's not hopeless. A few buffs to core abilities and ult interactions might open up new builds, but players will likely need time to figure them out.

Right now, Barbarian looks like the weakest class at launch, even if it has long-term potential.

Frenzy-based setups
Wrath of the Berserker builds
Heavy throw / hybrid experiments

Why Season 14 still looks exciting
Even with all the balance changes, Season 14 PTR feels like a reset in a good way. No single class is completely dominating everything, and several systems are shaking up how builds are made.

A few standout changes include:
New Mythic Unique system allowing stronger item scaling
Improved item reroll and crafting options
A seasonal mechanic that adds extra combat chaos in endgame content

Final thoughts
Season 14 looks like one of the more balanced patches Diablo 4 has had so far. A lot of classes are sitting close enough that final tuning—or even small discoveries from players—could shift the meta again once the season actually launches cheap Diablo 4 gold.
